The European Day of Languages, initiated by the Council of Europe at the end of the European Year of Languages (2001) is celebrated on the 26th of September. The objectives of the venture are to raise awareness of multilingualism and cultural diversity, to promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe and to encourage language learning in and out of school.
Europe possesses a real treasure: 23 official languages and over 60 indigenous languages spoken by regional or minority communities. We should also add numerous languages brought over to Europe from other parts of the world.
The Public Service Language Centre invites you to join the event and thus contribute to promoting linguistic diversity and respect to all language communities in Europe. The European Day of Languages is a perfect opportunity to promote your language and culture in Lithuania and in Europe.
