Still IdentityPresentation of Arturas Valiauga book Still Identity / Stille Identiteit
24 September 2008
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lithuania had pleasure to invite to a presentation of Arturas Valiauga photography book Tylusis Identitetas / Stille Identiteit. On Wednesday, September 24 in Arka Gallery (Aušros Vartų str. 7, Vilnius) the Embassy presented Arturas Valiauga's Still Identity.
The series of photographs by Arturas Valiauga forms a beautiful book that illustrates the relation between the Netherlands and Lithuania on the level of everyday life. The evasive nature of identity is central to Still Identity: Arturas Valiauga has chosen to photograph the changing identities of people who end up working in a foreign country. He had coupled Lithuania with the Netherlands – two small countries (approximately the same area), but with completely different destinies. Valiauga has spent a month photographing private spaces of Dutch people living in Lithuania and a month in the Netherlands photographing homes of Lithuanians. The project „Still Identity“ has already been shown in Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain and Ukraine. On the initiative and with support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lithuania the series of photographs got a form of a book.
The book was published to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Beatrix‘s visit to Lithuania in 2008.
