On Monday 2 June, during a short ceremony in the park of the Presidential Palace, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mrs Annemieke Ruigrok presented to Mrs Alma Adamkienė a Dutch tulip named after the First Lady. Mr Jan Ligthart, a Dutch grower has developed this new tulip variety, which will be officially registered in the International Cultivar Register as 'Alma Adamkienė tulip'.

This event is a friendly gesture from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands towards Mrs Adamkienė and President Adamkus, in connection with the State Visit of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands to Lithuania from 24–26 June 2008.
